A travelling day today, as we flew south for a short beach holiday in Phuket. We’ve got ourselves a sea view at the quieter end of Patong Beach for the next few days!

First impressions, yes it’s a beautiful part of the world. However, Patong is incredibly busy and a very commercial resort, which kind of takes away a lot of its charm. I can imagine maybe twenty years ago, this would have been a relatively unspoilt destination. But now? Paradise – perhaps not!

Still, it’s a relaxing change after the bustle and mayhem of Bangkok. So we’ve stepped down a couple of gears, and started to just ‘go with the flow’. Pictures, naturally, will be either of beaches or the hotel swimming pool. Plus one or two unusual things we spotted while we were out – like the bloke with four little dogs crammed into his moped storage, or the family of four all on one moped!

Our hotel for the next few days? The Baan Boa Resort (via Booking.com), is a lovely place to stay. It’s at the quieter south end of the beach, but still within easy walking distance of Phuket’s rather vulgar nightlife!

Going off at a bit of a tangent, aren’t 7-Eleven’s brilliant? As you can see from the photo, we’ve got one right next to our current hotel. But thinking back, there’s always been one never further than a street corner away from wherever we’ve been in Thailand. Excellent for picking up drinking water, or beers and snacks for the evening.

Tomorrow, a backpacking adventure to an island!
