Day Two, and despite poor weather we decided to venture to Lantau Island, to travel on the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, and see the Giant Buddha statue at Tian Tan.

It seemed that our plans might be thwarted at the start, as no sooner had we paid for our cable car tickets than the cars were shut down due to the heavy thunderstorm passing overhead and the risk of lightning strikes. But after around an hour’s wait, the cars started running again and we were able to make our ascent.

The trip required us to dodge the frequent showers passing overhead, or brave them with the little umbrella we had found discarded at a tram stop the previous day. The gallery below shows the skyscrapers of Tung Chung, views of the new airport at Shek Lap Kok, and of course the giant Buddha at Po Lin Monastery. My apologies for the raindrops on many of the snapshots!
