Hong Kong now feels a step closer, having booked our return flights with Air France for later this year. Now the trip planning really begins…

This year is a significant birthday for my wife, who was born in Hong Kong while her parents were on military service there. It’s been a long-standing aim for us to go back there, and see what if anything still remains from her childhood photos of the hospital and the house where she spent her early years. Having travelled halfway around the world, it would seem stupid not to also try to include a short visit to mainland China, the Forbidden City in Beijing, and the Great Wall. So for the next few months we are going to be pre-occupied with planning and booking the trip of a lifetime!

So far, we’ve got lots lined up on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon; a few days in Beijing; maybe a day trip to Macau; and a personal goal of mine is to complete the ‘Dragon’s Back Trail’ on the South East corner of HK Island.

I’ve started searching the Internet, and reading other WordPress blogs about Hong Kong, so I’m keen to hear other people’s experiences – what did you enjoy going to see? where did you stay and what did you have to eat?
