Light rain in the morning, which gave way to fair weather and sunshine by lunchtime. Disappointing to hear that this may be the last Waddington Airshow, with the news that next year will be cancelled due to runway improvement work.
Waddington is always a good day out. The static displays seemed a little scaled down this year compared to previous shows, but some unusual entries in the flying displays more than compensated. Wonderful to see the flying Vulcan XH558 incorporated into the static display near the edge of the flight line this year, so people could really get up close. Later in the day, crowd railings were moved around so that the Vulcan could be towed back into the runway aprons before putting on her show.
Family circumstances meant that I had to unexpectedly leave the show quite early this year, but not before catching some impressive displays by the Chinook helicopter, and the B29 Liberator ‘Sally B’ featured in the film Memphis Belle.
